Workers Compensation: A Coordinated Care Effort

Workers Compensation:

A Coordinated Care Effort

Dr. Nitin Khanna & Staff

On 12/19/18 I was assisting in lowering a lift on a flatbed trailer when something malfunctioned with the lift. I was struck in the head with the outriggers and fell approximately 5 feet to the ground. I was diagnosed with two large lacerations on my scalp, a T11 compression fracture, and neck pain. I saw Dr. Khanna for the first time on 2/6/19; almost two months after my injury. A back brace, medications and physical therapy had been ordered by the other doctor. Dr. Khanna was concerned with my cervical spine and recommended further tests to gain a better idea of what was causing my neck pain.

The MRI revealed I had a fracture in my neck that had previously been missed since my accident. He ordered a hard cervical collar for my neck, followed by further imaging to make sure it was healing properly. Dr. Khanna also recommended a minimally invasive surgical procedure to stabilize my spine fracture and correct the kyphosis. He used advanced imaging with an intraoperative CT scanner as well as stealth navigation during the procedure. I had surgery on a Thursday, and was back home the following evening. I required a minimal amount of pain medication. I’ve done physical therapy and have gradually increased my activities. I am now out of my cervical collar and have come a long way since the accident under Dr. Khanna’s care. I was pleased with the amount of time that he took with me and level of thoroughness that he and his team demonstrated throughout the process. I am optimistic about the future and grateful for the care he has provided for me.

A Letter From The Workers Compensation Case Manager

As a medical case manager, I had the opportunity to become involved with a claimant with a cervical neck and back injury. From the very beginning, the staff, nurse Denise and Dr. Khanna were very gracious and accommodating to both me, my claimant and family. Dr. Khanna could tell there was a serious problem that had been missed by previous physicians and immediately performed the various tests with an accurate diagnosis. His instructions and plan of care were clear and concise, however, as I had some lingering questions, he offered to call the adjuster to explain the upcoming surgical procedure and answer all questions that were put forward to him. Based on my overall experience, my expectations were exceeded with Dr. Khanna and his staff. Thank you for an excellent job well done.
(I really do appreciate all you did for me. Dr. Khanna calling the adjuster went above and beyond.)
